At Jade Recovery, community improvement is a key part of our mission. We are pleased to partner with NextStep solutions in providing these scholarship opportunities to the next generation of therapists, researchers, and individuals with a passion to make a difference. We believe it’s important to help the next generation of professionals who will pioneer change and industry improvement. This is our first annual scholarship competition and award and it is our goal to continue to expand this program over the coming years.

The scholarship is for college applicants or students interested in pursuing a degree related to behavioral health. The scholarship is an essay contest, with the winner receiving a $2,000 scholarship and the runner-up receiving a $1,000 scholarship.

If you’re interested in applying for this scholarship, please submit an essay not longer than 1,000 words describing why you feel passionate about mental health and addiction treatment, and your professional aspirations. We accept personal narrative essays that include a medical point of view and those with a specific clinic experience focus.

We welcome any applicant with a compelling story of recovery, whether their own or as a witness to that of another person. Jade Recovery especially looks forward to reading the personal motivations of those looking to work in and improve this industry.

How to Apply?

All submissions essays must be emailed to scholarships@jaderecovery.com.  Please use the subject line: “Scholarship Application – 2019”. Please attach your essay in the body of the email as a pdf document. In the body of the email, please describe yourself and the college or university that you’re attending in less than 500 words. While the scholarship is based on the essay, the body of your email may be considered in a close contest.

Upon submission, you’ll receive an automatic reply acknowledging receipt of your application.

Official Terms and Conditions for The Jade Recovery Scholarship Program

 Eligibility

Citizens and legal residents of the United States age 18 or older may complete an application.  Applicants don’t need to make a purchase to participate, but they must intend to enroll or currently attend an accredited college to earn a healthcare-related degree.

The winner of this scholarship must abide by local, state, and federal regulations. It’s not available in areas with laws prohibiting it. Employees of the scholarship sponsor, its parent companies, and all immediate family members cannot apply.

Entrance Requirements

The scholarship committee must receive completed applications by 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2019. Each person may only apply once. The scholarship committee will disallow entries made by automated systems. Applicants must prepare essays in English and not go over 500 words. Obscene, illegible, or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applicants shouldn’t expect to receive essays back because they become the sponsor’s property upon submission. All applicants must submit eligibility proof upon request.

The sponsor bears no responsibility for applications that don’t arrive due to technical issues. Submission of an entry implies agreement with the Scholarship Program’s Terms and Conditions.

Winning Entry Selection Criteria

All essays will receive points based on the following criteria and percentages:

  • Creativity, 20 percent
  • Demonstrated interest in theme of essay, 30 percent
  • Inspiration, 20 percent
  • Writing skills, 10 percent

The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final and cannot be challenged or changed.

Contest Prize

The essay contest winner receives a $1,000 scholarship that he or she may spend on books, fees, supplies, or tuition required for a healthcare degree program at an accredited school. The scholarship winner may not transfer the prize unless authorized by the Sponsor.

Winning applicants must pay any federal, local, or state taxes due on the prize if applicable or other expenses that arise from acceptance of the scholarship. Because the $1,000 amount exceeds the IRS threshold of $600 to receive a miscellaneous income statement, the Scholarship Committee will issue one at the end of the year. This will require the winner to provide his or her social security number and a minimum number of other personal details.

Claiming the Prize

The sponsor will notify winners by email and forward a publicity release at that time. Winning applicants must sign the release to receive the reward. The Scholarship Committee may verify age, proof of enrollment, or eligibility at its discretion. Award winners must accept the prize within five days of notification by returning the signed affidavits. Failure to do so results in disqualification. Payment will go directly to the financial aid office of the school the student attends or plans to attend.

Resolution of Disputes

By participating in this scholarship contest, applicant agrees to abide by all laws governing it established and enforced by the state of Colorado. He or she further agrees that any action related to this program can only be filed in Colorado and that applying for the scholarship implies consent to allow local courts to litigate legal actions. Further, the applicant agrees to the following provisions except where prohibited by law:

The Sponsor may require the scholarship winner to provide proof that another party has the authority to use the email account submitted with the entry.
